PALASBARI: Sports, which was traditionally considered as a hobby, especially in the Indian perspective, is now being taken seriously as a career option. On this topic, a day-long seminar was held at the Champakjyoti Auditorium, Chhaygaon College on Thursday.

This seminar was organized by South Kamrup Sports Association in collaboration with Usha Das Foundation and Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Chhaygaon College. This discussion was conducted by retired professor and novelist Dr Nagen Kalita and inaugural speech was delivered by Dr Naba Kumar Kalita, Principal (I/C), Chhaygaon College. Veteran sports journalist and former president of Sports Journalists Federation of India, Subodh Malla Barua and Bidyut Kalita, journalist, graced the occasion as chief keynote speakers.

In his thought-provoking speech, Subodh Malla Barua said, "Sports is a vital source of maintaining peace, harmony and social security within the society." Bidyut Kalita emphasized various career options as a sportsperson.

Various other dignitaries also attended the seminar and they laid stress on appointment of physical instructors and inclusion of physical education within the curriculum by the present government.
