JAMUGURIHAT: A seminar on classical Xattriya music, dance and drama was held at Biswanath College under the aegis of the Department of Assamese recently.

It was inaugurated by Dr. Chintamani Sharma, Principal of the college. Acting as the resource person of the seminar, Sanjib Kachari, accompanist, Xattriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Jorhat dwelt at length on the art of composition, singing technique and presentation style of the songs created by Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Madhabdev. He also demonstrated various techniques of Xattriya dance and Ankiya bhaona, the rich heritage left behind by the two Vaishnavite saints.

The seminar, held under the president ship of Dr. Mousumi Sarmah Baruah, Head of the Department of Assamese, was coordinated by Rajeswar Boro, Assistant Professor of the department. Balin Bhuyan, assistant professor, presented a brief introduction of the resource person while Dr. Khagen Saikia, associate professor, offered vote of thanks. The seminar was largely attended by postgraduate and undergraduate students of the department.
