KOKRAJHAR: As part of the awareness drive and to inspire young minds during the G-20/Y-20 summit being held in the country, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar organized a one-day seminar on 'Youth and Sustainable Development', and a quiz competition at its conference hall on Thursday. The programme was graced by MLA of 30-Kokrajhar East (ST) LAC, Lawrence Islary as chief guest and Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka as guest of honour.
Inaugurating the seminar, MLA Lawrance Islary briefed about the G-20 nations and India's scope as a leader. He hoped the submission, being held for the first time in the country, would expose the younger generation to the most critical issues related to sustainable development, climate change, finance etc of future. He also said the G-20 members represent around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka highly motivated the students present while deliberating on the role of youth in empowering India. She spoke in depth about aligning with the G-20 vision.
The resource persons Dr Shubhrajeet Konwar from the Department of Political Science of Gauhati University, Professor Manjit Das from the Economics Department of Bodoland University, and Professor Ayekpam Ibemcha Chanu from the Department of Commerce of Bodoland University spoke on political, economical and commercial dimensions of G-20 and Y-20 summit. The inaugural session was also attended by Dr Subung Basumatary, Registrar, and Dr Manjil Basumatary, Academic Registrar of Bodoland University, among other guests. They briefly spoke on Northeast India and its role in sustainable development of the country.
The seminar was conducted by Dr Debajyoti Biswas of the English Department, and the quiz competition by Dr Jasojit Debnath of the Department of Management Studies of Bodoland University. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from the students of the University.
