TANGLA: In a bid to bridge the gap between senior citizens and younger generation of society, the Bodoland Senior Citizen’s Forum (BSCF), along with IQAC cell of Tangla College, jointly organized a day-long seminar at Tangla College in the Udalguri district on Sunday.
The topic of the seminar, sponsored by the BTC Administration, was “Modernization and Development and Changing Patterns of Lifestyle in the 21st Century: Scarcity of Homely Space for Elderly and Seniors Citizens in Society”. The seminar was inaugurated by BTC Executive Member Daobaisa Boro. It was followed by the welcome address by the Principal of Tangla College, Dr. Prasen Daimari, and the felicitation of guests by the Coordinator of IQAC Cell, Mintu Pathak.
The keynote address on the occasion was delivered by BSCF vice-president Dipak Bose. The speakers on the occasion spoke at length on the ill effects of urbanization and development which has brought huge generation gap between older and younger generations. The speakers also highlighted how parents are being marginalized by their children who often settle in different cities and countries refrain from taking proper care and responsibility of ageing parents.
The event was chaired by BSCF secretary Dr. Binoy Kumar Brahma and graced as resource person by retired GU Professor Abani Kr. Bhagwati; Udalguri District Social Welfare Officer Dhiraj Talukdar; former Principal of Kharupetia College Dr. Budhin Hazarika; inspector of Statistics, Udalguri, Luhan Khungur Daimary; secretary of Niribili Old Age Home, Mangaldoi, Binoy Sarma, among others. Pertinently, more than ten papers were presented at the seminar by participants from different colleges of the state.
