Several organizations of Assam condemned assault on doctor while on COVID duty

Several organizations, including Medical College Teachers' Association of Assam (MCTAA) and Pratisruti Cancer and Palliatives Trust (PCPT), Dibrugarh, strongly condemned the barbaric physical assault on Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati, Medical Officer of Udali Model Hospital, Hojai by an irate move while he was performing his COVID duties on Tuesday.

DIBRUGARH: Several organizations, including Medical College Teachers' Association of Assam (MCTAA) and Pratisruti Cancer and Palliatives Trust (PCPT), Dibrugarh, strongly condemned the barbaric physical assault on Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati, Medical Officer of Udali Model Hospital, Hojai by an irate move while he was performing his COVID duties on Tuesday.

Both MCTAA president Dr Tulasidas Bhattacharyya and general secretary Rajiv Kumar Das in a press communiqué stated that 'such gruesome act of violence cannot be justified in a civilized society'. Expressing solidarity with Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati and other health workers engaged in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, MCTAA urged upon the State Government to institute a proper inquiry into the security lapses in the COVID Care Centre and step up security in each health establishment in order to protect health care workers from such act of violence.

Demanding justice for Dr Senapati, president and secretary of MCTTA, demanded stern punishment to all those involved in the assault under the Assam Medical Service Persons and Medicare Service Institution (Preventive of Violence & Damage to Property Act, 2011). The PCPT, in a memorandum to the Indian Medical Council and Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh, also condemned the act and demanded exemplary legal punishment to all the culprits.
