Several villages flooded in Barpeta due to Kurichu Hydro Power Plant

BARPETA: Water from Kurichu Hydro Power Plant flooded several villages. The Kurichu Hydro Power Plant released 2098,84 cumecs per second 5 am and at 9 am released 1098,05 cumecs on Sunday, said sources. On the other hand due to continuous and heavy rain fall also flooded a great number of villages in the entire Barpeta district. As per the report of the Water Resource department the flood water of Bramhaputra, Beki, Manah, Bhelengi, Pahumara, Kaldia, Nakhsnda are flowing above danger level. Bramhaputra is flowing 1.05 metres above danger level, On Saturday, the last river embankment of Pahumara river breached and flooded 10 revenue villages affecting 20 thousand people. Again Jania- Howly road and Kalgachiya - Lachang road also breached. All total 264 villages, 3,83,549 people and 13,990 hectare croplands were affected by this devastating flood in the entire district. Around 75,000 livestock have also been affected by the floods so far.
