TINSUKIA: Shiba Gogoi, a rationalist with scientific temperament who volunteered to donate his body after death passed away at his son’s residence in Parbotia, Tinsukia on Friday evening due to old age ailment. He was 92. A retired Assistant Registrar of Cooperatives, Government of Assam Shiba Gogoi, resident of Tiok in Jorhat district was a social worker who campaigned against superstition and evil forces. Honouring his wish, his mortal remains were taken by Ellora Vigyan Mancha and handed over at the Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh in presence of family members on Saturday. A brief homage was paid at AMCH where renowned cardiologist Dr Hem Chandra Kalita, Head of Anatomy Department Professor Dr Anuradha Barua, students of Anatomy Department, members of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia branches of Ellora Vigyan Mancha were present along with family members of Gogoi. Dr Kalita and Dr Baruah spoke briefly on posthumous body donation and the need for scientific mindset in society and praised the scientific and progressive thinking of Gogoi. The event was attended by his son Rana Changmai, former Principal of Tinsukia College and president of Ellora Vigyan Mancha, Tinsukia branch.
