BISWANATH CHARIALI: Shortage of office staff in the Borgang branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) has allegedly hit hard the customers of the bank. The affected customers alleged that they have to return home without getting work done after remaining in long queue for the whole day due to shortage of bank employees.

The branch is allegedly being run only by the branch manager, an assistant manager and a cashier whereas at least six officers and employees should be appointed there. Two employees were reportedly transferred out of the branch in April but their posts are still vacant. As a result, the beneficiaries of various government schemes, including old-age pension holders, job card holders, Majoni and Mamoni schemes and the other customers coming from far-off places have to often return disappointed. The affected customers have demanded the higher authorities of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) to pay heed to their problems and also to appoint the required staff in the branch as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, several social organizations of Ghahigaon under Gohpur subdivision in Biswanath district submitted a memorandum recently to the branch manager of the Balijan branch of State Bank of India to set up an automated teller machine (ATM) at Ghahigaon.

Ghahigaon has been a commercial hub for long and it is also connected to bordering Arunachal Pradesh via Dufflagarh-Balijan road. A good number of educational institutions, government offices, hospital, sports complex and business establishments are situated here. The local people, service holders and businessmen are forced to go to Gohpur, around 20 km away from Ghahigaon, to collect money to perform their day-to-day activities. Keeping in mind all these things, Chaiduar Sports Association, Banik Santha, Sanmilita Yuva Mancha and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Rangmancha Committee submitted the memorandum to the SBI official. The branch manager assured all possible help in this respect.
