Show-cause notice issued to Sonabheel Tea Estate management by Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar

TEZPUR: A show-cause notice was issued to the Sonabheel tea estate management by Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur on Thursday.

Official sources said that Sonabheel tea estate management is not maintaining the required medical records of the workers engaged in chemical spraying as per the Assam Plantation Labour rules. Sonabheel tea estate management is also not providing proper protective materials to the workers engaged in spraying chemicals in the garden. The workers are not medically checked properly and the management is not maintaining the medical records of the workers engaged in spraying and handling chemicals in the garden as per government notification.

The workers engaging in chemical spraying must undergo a thorough medical examination and have to be produced before a certifying surgeon. But the Sonabheel tea estate management allegedly engaged workers without following proper rules, sources added.
