Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court acquitted the mother and sister of the main accused in the Shweta Agarwal murder case on April 9.

Govind Singhal along with his mother Kamla Devi Singhal and his sister Bhawani Singhal were the three individuals who were accused in the murder of Shweta Agarwal.

Another hearing will take place vis -a- vis the case of the main accused Govind Singhal, who was allegedly Shweta's boyfriend. Earlier, Govind was given the death penalty by a fast track court on August 3, 2019.

According to reports, Shweta was ferociously murdered back in 2017 in Guwahati. The horrific incident unraveled when Govind reportedly smashed Shweta's head against a wall out of anger. Thereafter, her body was burned inside the bathroom of the house with the help of his sister and mother.

The reports further said that Govind Singhal admitted to his crime and explained the pre and post murder circumstances to the police during interrogation. He also confessed that he tried to cover up the murder by putting the dead body inside a gunny bag and then burning it.

Shweta Agarwal was pursuing B.Com at the KC Das Commerce College and was in her 5th semester at the time of the incident. Her burnt body was recovered inside the bathroom of the rented house of the Singhals.

Earlier, the police had submitted the charge sheet against Govind Singhal, his mother Kamala Devi Singhal and sister Bhavani Singhal under Section 302/120(B)/ 201 for murder, conspiracy and destroying evidence. 

Meanwhile, Shweta's family members had demanded the capital punishment for the trio.
