Guwahati: Following widespread outrage all over Assam in connection with the Assam Police Sub Inspector question paper leak scam, Pradeep Kumar, chairman of State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) has resigned from his position.

SLPRB chairman Kumar has stepped down from the post taking moral responsibility for the question paper leak case which resulted in the postponement of the exam that would have given employment to at least 597 people.

As per reports, two prime accused in SI scam case, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Prasanta Kumar Dutta and BJP leader Diban Deka are absconding.

The matter came to fore after the question paper of the written test for sub-inspectors in Assam Police was leaked hours ahead of the commencement of the examination.

Pradeep Kumar is a retired IPS officer of 1984 batch.

So far Assam Police has apprehended a total of 13 accused people on charges of being involved in the question paper leak.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged  the CID and Crime Branch to carry out the investigation thoroughly and unearth the names engaged in this scam.

Earlier on Saturday, Nalbari Police has held  five candidates who had appeared in the secret exam thar took place in the 'Thank You' lodge in Guwahati on a day before the actual written test.

The accused have been identified as Harkat Ali of Bhangnamari, Mukalmuwa, Sanjib Barman, Mridul Barman , Parth Pratim Pathak and one more person.
