SI exam scam: Akshay Chand's godown put on fire

Bongaigaon: A godown belonging to Akshay Chand, an accused in the Assam Police Sub Inspectors hiring exam scam was burnt down mysteriously. Chand is the owner of Akshay Telecommunication, the company that was given the sub-contract for conducting the SI recruitment exam for 597 posts. The godown located in Bongaigaon caught fire on Sunday.

According to reports, the godown was set on fire while Chand's house was being raided by the police. The godown was under the name of Akshay Chand's sister-in-law, however, it was used by Akhiya Chand for his business purpose. CID recovered some important documents from Akshay Chand's house in North Bongaigaon.

Akshay Chand along with the partner of Akshay Telecommunication, Rubul Hazarika were involved in the SI exam scam. Rubul Hazarika has already been arrested. Following Rubul Hazarika's confession, cash worth Rs. 3.33 crores have been seized from the house of Tarani Banikya's house in Bongaigaon. Banikya is Rupam Das's father-in-law. Rupam Das is a close aide of Hazarika and has also been arrested by the police.

Cash worth Rs. 1.15 crores have been recovered from Debraj Das's house in Barpeta, another Rs. 15 lakhs have been seized from Pradip Mazumder's house in Bongaigaon. They were all close aides of Hazarika.

The ongoing investigation of this infamous scam of Assam Police has stirred up various questions in the minds of many. As 66,000 candidates sat for this exam on September 20, the scam came to light within a few minutes into the exams as question paper was leaked on social media.
