SI Scam: Kumud Kalita, another accused arrested

Another accused in the infamous SI Exam scam has been arrested.

Nalbari: The police have arrested another accused in relation to the SI recruitment scam. The accused is Kumud Kalita.

Arrested on Friday, Kalita is accused of collecting money from the candidates. He collected the money in the name of the Assam Police Sub-Inspector job. He is now locked up in the Nalbari police station.

Earlier on Friday, Saruj Sarma, who was absconding since his name came under the scam, was arrested. He was arrested at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. He was involved with Akshay Telecommunications, the company that got the sub-contract for holding the SI exams.

The police also raided the houses of Akshay Chand Baid, owner of Akshay Telecommunications, and Rubul Hazarika, a partner of the company. Hazarika was also arrested on Friday.

The SI scam came to light when the exam was called off due to the question paper leak. The exam which was held for 597 posts, saw around 66,000 candidates sitting for the exam on September 20.
