On Christmas Eve last Saturday, a group of young individuals entered the premises of the Presbyterian Church complex located near Oriental School, Silchar and initiated violence in the religious institution.
Those young individuals wearing saffron-colored Cholas claimed themselves as members of the Bajrang Dal and demanded that the people from the Hindu community should not celebrate Christmas and stay away from the celebration.
The bunch of youths started manhandling visitors inside the Church and later they went forward to close the door of the Church. According to them on that evening the Hindus must celebrate Tulsi Dibas instead of visiting the church.
According to the eyewitnesses present at the time of the incident, the young group with saffron Cholas suddenly entered the church and started fights with people disrupting the celebration of Christmas. They also raised the slogan of 'Jai Shri Ram' inside the venue of the Church.
Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal General Secretary of the Cachar District Unit on the matter said that these young boys in connection with the Church Incident do not have any official position in the Bajrang Dal as to be part in the Dal they must be at least 18 years old. Nath further stated that the youth might have done such a thing out of immaturity to gain popularity.
The police also informed that during the investigation they did not find any connection of the boys with any organizations and henceforth consulted the same with local Bajrang Dal units who informed the same.
No case has been registered yet as the Church authorities did not file a formal complaint against the young individuals disrupting the Church authorities and other people present at the venue during the occasion of Christmas.
