SILCHAR: Souradeep Sengupta, guest lecturer in physics at the Gurucharan College here was arrested by the police from his residence late last night for his provocative posts in social media. His most inciting and defamatory posts on Facebook and Whatsapp as well as other social media stunned civil society, the teaching, and student fraternity, raising questions about his very intent and purpose. Is he a cog in the wheel of anti-Indian forces? Or is he a part of the pan Islamic design to spread a communal virus in this remote part of the country?

His posts read “BJP and RSS are trying to recreate Godhra in Delhi right now. People on the street are getting their IDs checked to see if they are Muslims. If they are, they are getting beaten up mercilessly. Hindu houses are being marked by saffron flags while Muslim houses and mosques are being petrol-bombed. All the while, these terrorists shout Jai Sri Ram. Sanatan Dharma my foot.”

The posts further read, ”We elected a mass murderer twice as a PM. This is what we get. Everyone who voted for BJP should know they sold the country off for a few bucks.”

Souradeep was arrested on the basis of the FIR filed by a group of students – Sunny Chanda, Rohit Chanda, Souvik Bhattacharjee, Bhargava Bhattacharjee, and Karanjeet Deb, at the Sadar police station. The police filed a case against Souradeep u/s 295/153(a) and 507 IPC and 66 of IT Act.

In yet another identical case, a Congress worker, Partha Sarathi Roy, who was also arrested last Thursday for provocative posts in social media, implicating BJP and RSS in Delhi riots, was produced before the CMJ Court. He was arrested u/s 120 (b) 597 and 295 IPC. In the meantime, Souradeep Sengupta deleted the provocative posts from social media, realizing its grave implication.
