SILCHAR: Biswakalyan Purkayastha, a journalist attached with Bengali edition of Indian Express, has tested positive. He was suffering from fever and cough for the last few days and went for test. Quite wisely, he isolated himself from his family members and media fraternity. According to Suman Choudhury, district media expert, there is no cause of worry. He is well and will soon be admitted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. At the initiative of the district administration, the journalists in general went for COVID-19 tests and all of them tested negative. Among them was Biswakalyan Purkayastha also. Once tested positive does not mean one will remain always positive. At any stage, one may develop the symptoms.
On Thursday the death of a well known trader Narayan Mitra of Janiganj Bazar of this town at SMCH was rumoured to be due to COVID-19. But the media expert clarified that the cause of his is myasthenia gravis as declared by the state level death audit board. Dulal Mitra, advocate, the younger brother of the deceased, confirmed that the swab of Narayan Mitra was taken when he was alive. Report came a few hours after his death. This was confirmed by the SMCH also. In fact, Narayan Mitra was under the treatment of a private doctor for age old related problems including myasthenia gravis. The doctor in question finding his case a bit complicated referred him to SMCH.
As all the family members of Narayan Mitra including Dulal Mitra are in quarantine, his body has been taken over by the district administration for cremation that will be done at an isolated place near the border of Dima Hasao district in presence of his close relatives in full PPE kits, informed Suman Choudhury. This is the most sad and tragic part for a family.
