Silchar to have Veer Lachit statue at Narsingtola Park

SILCHAR: District administration is gearing up to observe 400th birth centenary of great warrior Lachit Barphukan in a week long celebration in Cachar in a series of programmes from November 18. Stating this Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha informed that a statue of Veer Lachit would be installed in the pond at Narsingtola Park in Silchar. However since the construction of the statue would take considerable time, it would not be installed during the forthcoming celebration of the 400th birth centenary. The administration was in touch with the sculptors and the formalities would be inked very soon.

Jha said, the seven day celebration would start on November 18 with march past by Assam Police and army. On November 19, there would be a school level essay competition followed by a blood donation camp on the next day. On 21st, there would be an art competition on Lachit and Saraighat war.
