Silpi Divas observed across Assam

* Rich tributes paid to Rupkonwar on his 70th death anniversary

LAKHIMPUR: Commemorating the Assamese cultural icon 'Rupkonwar' Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Silpi Divas was observed across Lakhimpur district on his 70th death anniversary on Sunday. Academic, cultural, literary, social institutions and organizations of the district paid rich tribute to the noted playwright, songwriter, poet, writer and film maker by observing the event in a befitting manner.

Telahi-KamalaboriaAnchalikSakhaXahityaXabha, one of the noted Branch units of AxamXahityaXabha, organized the Silpi Divas jointly with Maria's Children Academy located at Panigaon. The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of school flag by PabanJyoti Borah, the Director of the school. Prominent writer Prashanta Kumar Borah lit the earthen lamp and garlanded the portrait of the cultural icon. It was followed by a series of competition events organized among the students on drawing and poetry recitation.

The open session organized on this occasion was chaired by Lohit Chandra Khaond, the president of Telahi-KamalaboriaAnchalikSakhaXahityaXabha. It started with a chorus song presented by the teachers of the school. Secretary MintuSarmah explained the objectives of the programme. Eminent poet DilipGogoi took part in the event as appointed speaker. In his lecture, the appointed speaker highlighted the multifaceted contributions of JyotiPrashadAgarwala towards Assamese literature and culture and called upon the upcoming generation to evaluate his genius with their research works.

In connection with the event, a colourful literary and cultural programme was also organized. In the programme, poets HarenHazarika, DulalDutta, MintuSarmah, Makhan Chandra Saikia, KiskindhaGogoi recited self-composed poetry while vocal artistes Bandana Kalita, BijayaGogoi, NijaraKalita and several students of the school presented JyotiSangeet. Moreover, the students of the school staged a drama, titled as RanganadiyeRingiyai, composed by BhriguPrashadSarmah. Radio artiste SatyanathPhukan performed a caricature programme while a host of students presented creative dance items based on JyotiSangeet.

On the other hand, the North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) observed the Silpi Divas in association with Saboti-Lilabari branch unit of the organization at GohainGaon. The programmes of the event began with the unfurling of the organizational flag by North Lakhimpur regional AASU president PranjitGogoi. The organization took out 'Sur Bahini' in North Lakhimpur town with the presentation of JyotiSangeet and recitation of JyotiPrashadAgarwala's poetry under the management of vocal artiste Dipa Das. The organization also organized a series of competition events among the students on poetry recitation, essay writing and JyotiSangeet.

SARUPATHAR: Along with other parts of Assam, Silpi Divas was observed in Barpathar under Dhansiri subdivision in Golaghat district, coinciding with the 70th death anniversary of the cultural icon and freedom fighter, RupkonwarJyotiPrashadAgarwala on Sunday.

Every year on Rupkonwar's death anniversary, Silpi Divas is observed across the State. The Dhansiri subdivision Journalists' Association organized the Silpi Divas and several other events throughout the day at Barpathar in Golaghat district to commemorate the luminary's contribution to the field of art and culture.

The Journalists' Association of Dhansiri Subdivision hoisted the flag at 8:30 am, they also lit an earthen lamp in front of Rupkonwar's statue at 9 am. The people of Dhansiri Subdivision also paid floral tribute to the Rupkonwar's statue at Barpathar at 9:30 am, while the association also organized several cultural events throughout the day.

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of DoomdoomaSakhaXahityaXabha (DSXX) and with active cooperation of Doomdooma Marwari Yuba Manch and AgrasenSewaSamity, Silpi Divas was observed at Doomdooma. The programme began with lighting of lamp and offering of floral tributes by ArjunBaruah, president, TinisukiaZilaXahityaXabha. It was followed by a cultural function presented by the students of SwargamSangeetVidyalaya led by its coordinator Giribala Das. The whole programme was anchored by Deben Deka, Secretary, DSXX.
