Silver Jubilee celebration of Wangala fest postponed

DONKAMUKAM: The Karbi Anglong A'chik (Garo) Cultural Society (KAACS) along with Garo Student Union (GSU) Karbi Anglong Zone in a joint executive meet held at Satgaon Garo Cultural Hall, West Karbi Anglong on Sunday decided to postpone the 25th edition of Wangala fest indefinitely till conducive atmosphere happens. The fest was supposed to be held from November 5 to 7.

The postponement was necessitated due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

It may be mentioned that every year the Garo (A'chik) community of Karbi Anglong celebrate the Wangala or Thanksgiving festival from the aforementioned date. It is organized by KAACS to appease the god of giver "Misi Saljong". During the fest, competition on beating of drums in different forms, singing of folk songs, lullaby songs, traditional games and sports is held among the participants.

Presided over by president KAACS Niharson Sangma, the meeting was attended by Chief Advisor Ladipson Sangma and GSU was represented by Vice President Santo Marak, Rex Sangma, spokesperson Bijen Marak among others.
