SIVASAGAR: Ramen Deka, Vice-Chairman of State Innovation & Transformation Aayog (SITA), inaugurated a day-long Tourism Conclave on 'Re-discovering Sivasagar' on Wednesday at Yuvadol, Sivasagar which was organized by the district administration, Sivasagar, in collaboration with State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA), Assam.
The meeting was attended by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav, Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Paul Baruah, Bitupan Neog, officials of SITA, Tourism department, resource persons, stakeholders related to tourism, tour operators from different states and local students.
In his inaugural speech, vice-chairman Ramen Deka elaborated on the various types of tourism such as religious tourism, stress-free tourism and entertainment tourism. He said that unlike earlier tourists who goes for pilgrimage, the present tourists go places for relaxation and entertainment. To promote tourism, he emphasized the importance of hygiene and cleanliness and proper placement of toilets in and around tourist sites. He stressed that in order to promote tourism they need to inculcate a sense of belongingness or ownership of the tourist spots.
Taking hints of Colombo, Sri Lanka, he said tea tourism could be promoted in that line and also encouraged setting up of economy hotels with well-equipped amenities. Deka was of the opinion that with sustainable development of the State, eco-tourism should also be promoted.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav delivered a speech and highlighted the problems and future scopes of Sivasagar district. Others who spoke on the occasion also stressed the various aspects for development of tourism and elaborated on SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis on the potential of tourism in the district.
