Led by AASU central committee executive Samiran Phukan, general secretary of Sivasagar District AASU Dipankar Saikia and others, hundreds of the members holding placards and raising slogans demanded that the government should take immediate steps to control the prices.
Samiran Phukan sharply criticized both the BJP-led Central and State governments for their failure in curbing the skyrocketing prices of fuel and other essential commodities. "Both the Central and State governments have failed to discharge their duties in the interest of the people of this democratic country. Things are getting tough for the general people. We are protesting in the interest of the people. The governments should act as soon as possible to curb the rise in prices. If the governments fail to do so, we will agitate more vigorously," said Phukan.
