Sivasagar DC Dr. S Lakshmanan Flagged off Mass Rally to Mark Poshan Maah

GAURISAGAR: Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr. S Lakshmanan flagged off a mass rally in connection with the observance of Poshan Maah from in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday.

After flagging off the rally in presence of District Development Commissioner Nawab Al Azhar Ali, the Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that these kinds of initiatives would definitely have a positive impact on the mindset of the general public and would create awareness on the importance of nutrition. He called upon the public and all the stakeholders concerned to make the Poshan Abhiyan a ‘Jana Andolan’ or people’s movement in order to build a healthy and strong nation.

The officers and staff of District Social Welfare Department, ICDS projects, Anganwadi workers and helpers, ASHA workers, ANM staff and general public participated in the rally.

Along with the rest of the country, a month-long celebration of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah under the flagship programme Poshan Abhiyan is currently underway in Sivasagar district with effect from September 1. The observance of Poshan Maah aims at improving the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Poshan Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission) is a mission launched by the Government of India on March 8, 2018, to tackle the issues of malnutrition among children between the age group of 0-6 years. The Abhiyan aims at attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022.
