SIVASAGAR: Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav visited the Panidihing Bird Sanctuary under Demow Revenue Circle in Sivasagar district recently. The Assam government first recognized it as a wildlife sanctuary in 1996. Apart from Keteky, Kailangi, Koklonga, Black Tuni, Khantia Duck, Chakai-Chakwa, Chatak, Chilni, Gang Shalika, Orange-breasted Duck, Kalimuri Duck, Barhaitha, etc found in this sanctuary, and in view of the arrival of various migratory birds from abroad, the sanctuary was recognized as a bird sanctuary in August 1999. During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner went from Balma Ghat of Desangmukh to the forest department camp at Chitalia and interacted with the local people there to make them aware of the tourism potential of the sanctuary and also highlighted the conservation of birds. He said that the pristine natural beauty of the sanctuary must be protected and preserved and for this purpose more support from the locals is needed.

He urged the Divisional Forest Officer to take necessary measures for bird protection and keep an eye on all aspects of the sanctuary. During his visit, DFO Deben Kalita and district tourist information officer Madhav Das accompanied him.
