SIVASAGAR: A preparatory meeting in connection with the 75th Independence Day celebrations was held at the Syukafa conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office Sivasagar on Thursday.

Presiding over the meeting, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora asked all heads of the departments, noted citizens, representatives of various organizations and others present to put forward their valuable suggestions and reviewed the progress pertaining to implementation of programmes of the ensuing 75th Independence Day by maintaining COVID-19 protocol, social distancing and wearing of masks in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials concerned to complete all preparatory works two days prior to the ceremony. After threadbare discussions, the meeting unanimously decided to select Boarding Field as the venue for the ceremonial flag hoisting.

Relay of patriot songs will be from 5 am to 6 am through FLS of the office of District Information and Public Relations Officer followed by hoisting of the national tricolour at private residences and establishments at 7 am and hoisting of the national flag at all government office buildings and educational institutions at 7.30 am. This will be followed by swahid tarpan at 8:30 am at Piyoli Phukan Park Udyan and Anandaram Boruah Udyan.

Ceremonial unfurling of the national flag will be held at Boarding Field at 9 am which will be followed by a combined parade by CRPF, police personnel, 1st APBn, Home Guards and NCC Scouts and Guides. Lighting of lamps at various parks of Sivasagar will be held at 5:45 pm.

To avoid gatherings, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Inspector of Schools and District Elementary Education Officer, Sivasagar to organize essay, quiz and patriotic songs competitions through digital platform in which all school students can participate online. The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Chief Executive Officer of Sivasagar Zila Parishad to coordinate with all BDOs to organize the event at the respective offices of block development and gaon panchayat in a befitting manner.

The Joint Director of Health Services was asked to arrange proper sanitization with thermal screening at the two entry gates of Boarding Field in view of COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The meeting was also attended by Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Roushan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitupan Neog, Assistant Commissioners Manali Prasad Rajak and Dipawoli Kurmi.
