Sivasagar district administration  gears up for panchayat polls

SIVASAGAR/Joysagar: Ahead of the buzz for filing of nominations papers starting from November 10 by aspiring candidates for the forthcoming panchayat elections in Sivasagar district, the Sivasagar district administration organized an all-party meeting to ensure a free-and-fair election.

Addressing the meeting at Sukafa Conference Hall in DC’s Office, Sivasagar, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha stated that the total number of gaon panchayats that will go to polls were 62, anchalik panchayats 4, the number of zila parishad constituencies were 13 while the number of wards were 620. Jha said that the total number of voters were 3,44,079 out of which 1,75,027 were males and 1,69,052 females.

Disclosing that the total number of polling stations is 638, Jha said that the district administration has accordingly identified the very sensitive and sensitive polling booths. Jha revealed that 3 polling booths have been identified as very sensitive, 174 as sensitive and 461 as comparatively safe in Sivasagar district. Filing of nomination papers would begin from November 10 and the last date for filing the nomination is November 15 whereas the list will be published on November 16.

Briefing about the do’s and don’ts of the election to all the political parties, the Deputy Commissioner urged upon the political parties to contest in the elections in the true spirit of democracy and discourage violence. He also made an appeal to all officers and employees engaged in the election process to perform their roles and duties with honesty and devotion to ensure a smooth election.

On the other hand, expressing their reactions and exchanging greetings ahead of the nominations, leaders and representatives of different political parties were happy to say that they wish to see an impartial approach from the administration during the election.
