SIVASAGAR: Noted litterateur, Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah awardee Xahityacharyya Nahendra Padun was awarded the 'Sivasagar Ratna Award', the highest award of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha, at a function held at Sivasagar Yuva Dal on Saturday evening.

Noted litterateur Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami who was the chief guest, gave away the award and congratulated Nahendra Padun. Citing reference of Maharashtra Government's role in using Marathi language, Dr Goswami said that Assamese language was not preserved as it should be in Assam. Dr Goswami said, "We must respect our mother tongue for its development."

Receiving the award, Nahendra Padun extended his gratitude towards the Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha and said he was extremely honoured to receive the award. He said that he would make every effort to contribute for the development of Assamese language.

Prashanta Kumar Chutia's Xahityacharyya Nahendra Padun was also released at the event. Earlier, the programme was kicked off with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Ujanial Xatra Xatradhikar Lakhikanta Mahanta, followed by the performance of Chiro Senehi by the members of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha. Juga Gogoi, president of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha, delivered the congratulatory speech, while Santosh Dutta, secretary of the literary body, delivered the welcome address.
