GUWAHATI: According to accounts that surfaced on Wednesday, a woman in Assam's Sivasagar district alleged that her neighbour tried to turn her into a human sacrificial victim.

The event was reported from the Bihubor neighbourhood of Nazira, Sivasagar district, where a person named Mochowa Munda was believed to have tried human sacrifice in pursuit of undiscovered riches.

The victim said to the media, “The accused lives near my house and had been following me for the past two weeks. One day, all of a sudden he approached me and asked for my help in searching hidden treasures buried in the soil. He said, in order to find the treasure he will perform a ritual for human sacrifice.”

“He assured me that he would pay Rs. 2 lakhs to my mother before he performs the human sacrifice ritual on me. He also threatened me that if I refuse then he would abduct me forcefully and perform the ritual,” she added.

The woman went to the police and told them about the threats after she received them.

The accused had been evading capture ever since the victim sought the police, the police discovered when they arrived at his home.

Meanwhile, when the police arrived at the indicted's house, they discovered that he'd been on the run since the victim communicated with the cops.

This isn't the first such incident reported from the Sivasagar district. In 2020 also, three people including a woman were arrested for trying the mortal immolation of five children on Nov 15, 2020. All three people were arrested while observing Kali Puja in Demowmukh. The five children also included one of the indicted’s children. All the children were reportedly saved by the residents of the neighbourhood.

One of the accused's children was also among the five kids. The residents of the neighbourhood allegedly saved all the kids. Jamiul Hussain, Shafiul Hussain, and Ayesha Begum, three accused videographers, were turned over by the residents to the Sivasagar police.

Besides, the culprits dabbled in superstitions and primitive traditions, believing that sacrificing a human life would bring them great luck in terms of securing riches and property.
