MANGALDAI: Darrang Police, in a significant achievement, successfully arrested a six-member gang of notorious criminals involved in a sensational robbery case, that too within a week. On the night of August 10, the gang of robbers committed a daring robbery in the residence of established businessman Sirajul Hoque of village Ganesh Kunwari under Sipajhar Police Station and decamped with cash Rs 6.50 lakh and valuable gold ornaments worth Rs 3.50 lakh.

The police took it very seriously and the Superintendent of Police, Amrit Bhuyan himself supervised the investigation. Taking a vital clue from the conversation of cellular phone talks, the cyber cell of Darrang Police, headed by Sub-Inspector Krishna Kanta Laskar, traced the gang of the dacoits and finally a team of Darrang Police headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Ujjwal Pratim Barua successfully arrested the six-member gang from different locations of Marigaon, Darrang and Guwahati.

The arrested dacoits are Manowar Ali (52) of Dampur under Sipajhar Police Station, Siraj Hussain (29) of Ward No. 5 of Jagiroad town, Arif Ali (25) of Jagiroad, Abdul Mazid Bhuyan (42) of Baghpori under Mangaldai Police Station, Ismail Hussain (42) of Mayong in Marigaon district and Pinku Kumar Deka. The police also seized a Swift Dzire (registration number AS 21 E 7091) and a Maruti Alto (registration number AS 02 N 5944) which were used while committing the crime.
