MANGALDAI: In the light of an order passed by the Gauhati High Court on February 22 in connection with case no PIL/08/2023 (Bimal Mahato versus State of Assam and others), Udalguri district administration has closed down and sealed six numbers of stone crusher industries and two brick kilns industries in Mazbat area as these industries were functioning without any valid documents or license and even the clearance from Assam Pollution Control Board which is a gross violation of Assam Stone Crusher Establishment and Regulation Act, 2013 and Assam Brick Kilns Establishment and Regulation Act, 2013
Mention may be made here that one conscious villager Bimal Mahato of village Gorubondha (Khangkhabari) under Mazbat Revenue Circle in Udalguri district in 2019 had filed a PIL in Gauhati High Court stating the grievances on the soil, noise and air pollution caused by these unauthorized industries.
Following the order passed by the Gauhati High Court for inquiry into the grievances faced by the villagers due to establishment and operation of the stone crushers and the brick kilns in the village and the subsequent order of the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, Circle Officer of Mazbat Revenue Circle Utpal Deka conducted an on spot inquiry on March 2. During the inquiry, the proprietors of these industries measurably failed to produce any authorization documents and the clearance from Assam Pollution Control Board.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Sadnek Singh being satisfied with the inquiry report and considering emergent nature of environmental impact ordered for the closure and sealing of these six stone crushers and two brick kilns on March 16. Accordingly, the Circle Officer accompanied by a police team on March 19, sealed these industries.
