HAFLONG: A six-day skill training programme on Rural Youth (STRY) on 'Piggery Rearing and Management', which was organized from February 23 to February 28 by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dima Hasao at State Veterinary and Dispensary conference Hall, Dima Hasao, concluded with significant participation.

The programme was sponsored by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad under the department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India under the course director, Dr Nakambam Manoranjan Singh, Programme Assistant (Veterinary) with an objective to provide technical and scientific knowledge of need based skill training on piggery rearing and management to transform into the gainful employment opportunity by unemployed rural youth for sustainable livelihood in hilly regions.

The programme started with a welcome addressed by Parkey Gogoi, Subject Matter Specialist, Horticulture. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr Jadav Gogoi, Additional Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, (Hills), Dima Hasao.

The Guest of Honour was Dr Bhairab Kakati, District Veterinary Officer, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Hill, Dima Hasao, while Rashmita Saikia, Sr. Scientist & Head (in-charge), was the chairperson of the programme.

The chief guest urged all the trainees to take maximum benefits of such a long training programme, where different expertise was shared from the line departments along with KVK scientists of different disciplines engaged to make farmers skilled in the livestock & IFS sector. Rashmita Saikia emphasize the importance of scientific pig farming to make the district self-sufficient in pig production through joint efforts of line departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dima Hasao. She also urged the farmers to take maximum advantage from this skill training programme.
