SILCHAR: Smiling doctors and clean toilets were the ultimate index of how well a hospital was being run, stated Governor Golab Chand Kataria, who wrapped up his three day Barak Valley tour with a function at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday morning. Maintaining that he was not visiting the SMCH to detect loopholes, Kataria said, doctors and para medics of the hospital should understand that being government servants we all should provide quality service to the people in our respective areas. Kataria, who inspected various infrastructural development works being done in the SMCH premises, said that a patient gets rid of half of his diseases when he sees his doctor treating with a smiling face with compassion. Kataria put stress on cleanliness of the medical building, particularly the toilets.

Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, chairman and MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, the vice chairman of the SMCH governing body in their speeches said, the five decades old premier institute had seen a massive infra structural development during the BJP regimes, both in the Centre as well as in the State. State of the art machineries had been installed in the last few years and the SMCH now has its own liquid oxygen plants.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, principal of the SMCH gave the welcome address in the function held at the college auditorium. Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha also attended the function.
