Smriti tarpan and 42 xarais offered at Charaideo Maidam

SIVASAGAR: Praying for the welfare and development of the community, smriti tarpan and offering of 42 xarais was celebrated at the historic Charaideo Maidam premises with a two-day long programme from March 22 to March 23.

Keeping in view the tradition of the Ahoms, various programmes were held at the Charaideo Maidam premises. In the smriti tarpan ceremony, which has been celebrated since 1953, blessings of Dam and Phi were sought for the welfare of the community. On the first day of the festival, offerings were made to Chomdeo at the Lankuri Deoshal and bonfire was lit.

In addition to the special ceremonies, a Dihanam programme was also organized where Kamala Gogoi performed. On the second day, flag hoisting, Banfi Puja, offering of 42 xarais and art and quiz competitions among students were held. An open meeting, under the chairmanship of Rohini Mohan, president of the celebration committee, was also held on the occasion.
