GAURISAGAR: Binanda Dutta, a resident of Dikhowmukh Kharadhara village on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in the Sivasagar district, an assistant teacher of No 2 Kaliori LP School and secretary Sivasagar Mohkuma Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani, passed away on Friday at his residence due to liver ailment. He was 45.
He was a popular student leader of the Assam Agitation. Later, he joined the AGP and held the post of secretary of AGP Kawaimari Anchalik Committee. Thereafter, he joined the BJP and held the post of co-convener of BJP Sivasagar District Education Cell. He had been suffering from liver ailment and was admitted in a hospital in Hyderabad. But due to his deteriorating health condition, he was brought from the hospital in an ambulance and reached home on Thursday evening. He then breathed his last on Friday.
As news of his demise spread, people from various walks of life rushed to his residence. After a tearful adieu by family members, his body was taken to Dikhowmukh Janajati High School by a silent procession where a good number of social organizations and individuals paid floral tribute to him. His last rites were performed near his residence. He is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters and a host of relatives.
