Social worker of Jamugurihat Uma Barua passes away

JAMUGURIHAT: A known social worker and actor Uma Barua (72) breathed his last at his Nandikesar residence here due old-age related ailments in the early hours on Thursday.

A follower of the left wing, Barua was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of Jamugurihat, including Sanjivani Natya Samaj, Sanjivani Moina Parijat, Sudarshan Sanskritik Gosthi, among others. Born in 1948 at Nandikesar, Barua had directed many dramas enacted in various stages of Jamugurihat area.

Organizations, including Chilabondha Brahman Samaj, Chilabondha Regional Committee of Gopini Samaj, Nandikesar Brahman Samaj, Sanjivani Natya Samaj, Sudarshan Sanskritik Gosthi among others, paid rich tribute to the mortal remains of Baruah at his residence. His demise was widely mourned in Jamugurihat. He leaves behind his wife, a son along with a host of relatives.
