SARUPATHAR: Residents of Deopani Parghat on the outskirts of Sarupathar want the authorities to immediately look into the soil erosion problem that is affecting a bridge over the Dhansiri River.

The residents are worried that the 90-metre long RCC bridge over Dhansiri River, which was built at an estimated cost of Rs 8.50 crore, is in danger. If no action is taken to address the soil erosion problem, the newly-constructed Dhansiri may collapse one day.

"The Dhansiri bridge was built in 2018 after The Sentinel had published the news, and now it is a lifeline for us. The bridge is an important communication link for the people here. Without it, life will come to a standstill," a resident said. "During heavy rainfall in the downstream catchment area, the water current is strong and swift, which worsens the soil erosion below the Dhansiri bridge," the resident added.
