Dibrugarh: Given the fact that few parts of the town had witnessed one of the worst instances of soil erosion last year, the residents living close to the Brahmaputra are apprehensive and worried about the monsoon just a couple of months away.
What has intensified their concerns is that instead of a permanent solution to the problem of soil erosion, which few officials said would be dawning upon the town this year, it seems to them as if Adhoc and temporary measures are the only solutions that are in the offing.
A permanent and long-lasting measure to tackle the menace of soil erosion that causes permanent loss of different layers of soil, although currently being worked on, seems far from becoming fruition this year. The locals of the places living near the river like Panchali, Puja Ghat, Malipatty and Tinkunia cannot forget the horror that they were subjected to due to last year’s soil erosion.
