Soldier Biren Saikia felicitated by Sikh Regiment of Indian Army

An eight member team of Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army headed by a Subedar Major visited the residence of soldier Biren Saikia located at Sangiya Major Chuk village here on Saturday and felicitated Saikia, interacted with him for nearly one hour and enquired about his health status and other shortcomings.

JAMUGURIHAT: An eight member team of Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army headed by a Subedar Major visited the residence of soldier Biren Saikia located at Sangiya Major Chuk village here on Saturday and felicitated Saikia, interacted with him for nearly one hour and enquired about his health status and other shortcomings.

Biren Saikia had lost his two legs during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. Biren Saikia has been leading his family life accepting the permanent disability since the war. The Indian Army has been rendering all sorts of help and accommodations to the brave soldier time and again. The Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had felicitated war hero Biren Saikia in 2022 along with other war heroes. As a part of celebration of 51 years of completion of the Indo-Pak War, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had felicitated 9 family members of the deceased soldiers who laid down their lives during the Indo-Pak War. 8 wounded soldiers including Biren Saikia who sustained permanent disability along with 105 other soldiers who participated in the historic war were felicitated at a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra last year.
