Son Allegedly Sets His Mother On Fire in Assam

The police have said that the duo were arguing over the preparation of death anniversary function of Santosh’s father slated on 5 February.

Guwahati: A man named Santosh Sahu allegedly tried to set his mother on fire on the morning of 4 February in the Gohaigaon area in the Sivasagar district in a distressing incident.

Fortunately, she managed to survive the incident and is currently undergoing medical treatment at Dibrugarh medical college hospital.

Eyewitnesses have said that the incident took place at around 7:30 am. The incident unravelled when the mother and son were involved in a quarrel. A furious Santosh then set his mother on fire following the spat.

However, she was rescued by the locals and then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. 

The police have said that the duo was arguing over the preparation of the death anniversary function of Santosh's father slated on 5 February.

Sahu has already been arrested by the police.

Earlier on February 4, a woman named Nikita Agarwala Khemka was admitted to a hospital after she was found in a burnt state in the Christian Basti area of Guwahati on 4 February.

As per reports, the woman was reportedly being tortured for a long time for dowry by her husband and family. 

Meanwhile, the husband, identified as Kaushik Khemka, has been detained by the police. The couple had been married since 2018.

Reports further claimed that the relatives of Nikita Agarwal Khemka have lodged an FIR against her in-laws at the Dispur Police Station in Guwahati.

Speaking on the same, the victim's mother apprised the media that her daughter had been undergoing severe mental harassment for the past years.
