SILCHAR: After being elected MLA, AIUDF MLA Abdul Karim Barbhuiya of Sonai visited Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre on Friday which falls under his constituency. He was welcomed by the Director Padmasree Dr Ravi Kannan and members of the governing body with whom the MLA was closeted in the conference hall of the hospital. Chairman, Dr S K Nandi Purkayastha, felicitated him with shawl and a bouquet. Nilmadhav Das, general secretary, in his welcome address appreciated Abdul Karim Barbhuiya for his various development works.

Dr Ravi Kannan briefed him about the various ongoing projects, all for the ever growing number of patients and also the urgent needs of CCHRC, particularly land for expansion. The AIUDF MLA said he would extend financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh from his development fund for the construction of 3rd floor of the building constructed under Dr Manmohan Singh MP Area Development Fund. He also assured renovation of a pond of the hospital and strengthening of approach path to doctors' quarters.

Abdul Karim Barbhuiya said he has an emotional attachment for this hospital not that it is in his own constituency but for the poor and downtrodden patients receiving treatment at the most affordable cost. He at the same time assured arrangement of land for the ever expanding CCHRC purely on the strength of contributions of public, people's representatives, various private and government agencies. The state of Assam extended financial assistance of Rs 10 crore. The MLA said he would make his best effort for release of fund from Mohammdan Jakhat Fund. The MLA went round the hospital and expressed his satisfaction at the facilities for patients and their attendants.
