Sonapur Social Development Society presents awards to tea labourers

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Sonapur Social Development Society, an NGO, an award ceremony was organized in Athabari Tea Labourers Kalyan Kendra near Demow where the Best Tea Labour and Best Healthy Tea Labour awards were presented.

The Sonapur Social Development Society selected the Best Tea Labour and Best Healthy Tea Labour from 10 tea estates. Samu Kurmi of Rajabari Tea Estate won the Best Tea Labour award and Nipan Chaura of Athabari Tea Estate won the Best Healthy Tea Labour award.

The award comprised a phulam gamosa, a trophy, a certificate and cash money. An awareness camp was also organized on ‘Save Tea Garden and Save Tea Garden workers’ during the programme. In the programme, Stephen Chaura, former president of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, and other dignitaries were present.
