TEZPUR: A meeting of Sonitpur district administration and health department with representatives of the Tea Association of India and ABITA, along with managers from all tea gardens was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office here recently to discuss the ways and means to stop the COVID 19 cases from spreading among tea garden workers and labourers.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh in presence of ADC Arundhati Mipun Narah, Joint Director Health Services, Dr. J Ahmed, MIP, Tezpur Dr. Pradip Kumar Lahkar, representatives of ACMS, ATTSA and others. The Deputy Commissioner advocated urgent steps to create awareness among the people of tea garden areas and ensuring strict compliance of all COVID-19 protocol. He warned that in case the situation deteriorated, the management might have to take extreme steps such as completely shutting down the tea gardens and stressed early measures to contain the disease in these areas.
He lauded the efforts of the tea garden management in containing the disease during its first wave last year and said that he expected similar cooperation and assistance from them this time as well. He moreover, asked the tea garden management to take necessary steps to treat any positive patients in their respective hospitals and intensely screen the people at their level. Additional SP Olindita Gogoi assured all possible help from the police in enforcing COVID-19 protocol in tea garden areas.
