TEZPUR: Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh on Monday laid the foundation stone for a permanent building Sakhi: One-Stop Centre of Sonitpur district at Mazgaon, Tezpur.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Liza Talukdar, DSP (headquarters) Dr. Rashmi Rekha Sarma, Assistant Commissioner and i/c DSWO Shilpi Sikha Thakuria, CDPO Tezpur Urban, Ruby Kalita, Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre, Jyotismita Baruah, representatives from District Legal Services Authority and other officials and staff of social welfare office were present on the occasion.
The one-stop centre provides integrated services of medical and legal aid, guidance on the procedure of registering police complaints, along with psycho-social counseling and temporary shelter to women who have been victims of sexual or physical violence.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh said the one-stop centre will go a long way in providing support services for survivors of rape, domestic violence, acid attack, trafficking all under one roof. The RCC building (G+1) for the centre is being built at a cost of Rs. 48,69,372.
Sakhi, a one-stop centre is being implemented by the Ministry of Woman and Child Development, Government of India and Social Welfare Department of the Government of Assam to provide integrated support and assistance under one roof for women affected by sexual and physical violence. It may be noted that the one stop centre in the district is currently being run from a temporary campus at Vidya Mandir building at Dhanua Nagar, Morabharalipar in Tezpur which caters to women in distress.
Under the scheme, similar centres have been opened in each district in all the States of the country.
