Sonitpur Police arrested 13 alleged drug peddlers with contraband substances

TEZPUR: The Sonitpur Police arrested 13 alleged drug peddlers with suspected contraband substances and some cash from Tezpur and Nagaon districts, on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, in a special drive against narcotic drugs and psychtropic substances under the the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta and DSP Dr Rashmi Rekha Sharma, a total of 13 persons, including peddlers and consumers, were apprehended from different areas under the jurisdiction of Tezpur PS in Sonitpur district and Uluwoni PS area under Nagaon district. A total of 11 containers and 8 empty containers of suspected brown sugar were seized. Total 17 mobile handsets and cash Rs. 2,750 were also seized from their possession. A case has been registered against them under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
