Boko: National Register of Citizen (NRC) final draft was published on Saturday all over Assam, but some villagers from Sontoli village under Chamaria revenue circle of Boko Legislative Assembly Constituency in Lower Assam’s Kamrup district were offended after their names were not included in the final list.

Nearly 25,000 people under Chamaria revenue circle were called for NRC re- verification within 12 hours to Upper Assam. But the villagers were dejected after they found that their names were not included in the final list even after re-verification.

Rahmotullah (35) from Sontoli village said, “We want a transparent NRC and a foreigner-free Assam through this NRC but we minority poor people have been harassed from the beginning of the NRC procedure. We have lost our patience. Now after the rejections in the final list we have to prepare for court procedure.”

Omar Ali (63) from Sontoli village alleged that the present government was physically, mentally and economically harassing the minority people of Assam.

Ex Indian Army officer Md. Sanaullah’s name has also been left out of the final list. He served his nation for 30 years in the Indian Army and for his service he was awarded by the President of India. Sanaullah was arrested by Guwahati border police after suspecting him to be an illegal foreigner. Later, the Foreigners Tribunal declared him as a foreigner and now his case is going on in the high court. After his name was not included in the final NRC draft, he said that since his case was going on in Gauhati High Court, his name was not included in the final list. He said he had full faith in the judiciary and he expressed confidence that he would get justice from the court. The names of his two daughters and his son have also been excluded from the final list.

MLA of Chaygaon, Rekibuddin Ahmed said that today was an important day in Assam’s history as the names of genuine citizens had been published in the NRC final list. But some genuine citizens who have been left out should not worry and they would get all support to prove their citizenship.
