SP Cachar Meets SP Jiribam to Discuss Border Issues

SILCHAR: The situation in the state of Manipur is gradually limping back to normal and the state government is now relaxing the curfew timings. A large number of people from the state sneaked shelter in Assam for fear of their lives. Some of these people have returned to the state, while some of the people are waiting for more favourable circumstances and the district administration of Cachar is taking proper care of the situation.

Following the orders from the Chief Minister of Assam, the Cachar District Administration along with Cachar Police has left no stone unturned towards the safeguarding of these people. They have not only arranged for the proper setup and maintenance of the shelter houses but also carried out operations to prevent any nuisance in these camps from anti-social elements.

On Tuesday Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta along with other officers of the Cachar District Administration visited the displaced people from Manipur who took shelter in Shelter Camps under Jirighat and Lakhipur Police Station. People belonging to various ethnic groups sneaked into Cachar from the neighbouring district of Jiribam in Manipur to take shelter due to ethnic violence and unrest prevailing there. The Cachar police team led by Numal Mahatta went to the Jiribam district of Manipur and met his counterpart, Pradeep Singh Superintendent of Police for Jiribam District of Manipur.

Both teams had a discussion over the prevailing scenario across Assam- Manipur border and issues relating to the return of the inmates of the shelter camps back to their homes and planned for joint patrolling along the border. Pradeep Singh thanked the Assam government and Cachar SP for taking care of the displaced people and mentioned that the states are different but all belong to the same country India. Further added that now there is no tension in the Jiribam district now and the situation in Manipur is also improving.

Numal Mahatta also mentioned that they had a healthy exchange of discussion and planned for joint patrolling of police from both Assam and Manipur sides i.e. of Cachar and Jiribam district police teams in the bordering area both land and waterways.
