‘Space on Wheels’- the Mobile space exhibition Bus

DOOMDOOMA: As part of the Dr. Vikram A Sarabhai centenary celebration programme, a state-of-art mobile space museum has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on a bus.

According to Dr Arup Borgohain, a scientist of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Umium, Shillong, in the ‘Space Museum on wheels’, models of launch vehicles (SLV, ASLV, PSLV, GSLV), satellites (polar and geostationary), Vikash Engine, Cryo stage, RLV-RD, NAVIC and ISRO extra-planetary missions have been kept. Some of the models are self-explanatory using interactive command base software. A team from North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Umium, Shillong along with a mobile space exhibition bus demonstrated in the 27th State-level National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) situated at Rangajan, near Doomdooma in Tinsukia district from November 1 to November 4. A large number of visitors visited the bus and experienced Indian space technology with great enthusiasm and eagerness.

Talking to The Sentinel, Kabyashree Moran, a student of Class X of Modern Academy, said that she was overwhelmed after witnessing the models of launch vehicles in the mobile exhibition bus. On the other hand, Ratneswar Moran, a cultivator of Rangajan area, said that for the first time he could gather some ideas about the launch of rockets after seeing the models displayed inside the bus. According to him, more such exhibitions should be organized in the interior areas so that the children, as well as the elders, could get an opportunity to become acquainted with space science.
