SILCHAR: With the fast spreading COVID-19, a panicky situation has come to prevail in the administrative set up of Karimganj. According to information from the border town, one after another administrative officers are being infected by the killer disease. But more than that the panic is about the State employees and general public who move around the building in question. Though there has been objection and also steps taken to contain the movement, but it has been of no use.
The first one to get infected was Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Observer for Ratabari, and his wife Sudha Sharma. The latest person to be affected is Rajeshan Terang, ADC. Those who serve under them have no option but to carry on their assigned works, risking their life. Even these employees have to do marketing for them. The district administration however has taken the right decision to isolate and separate the affected area of the Circuit House.
People in general are apprehensive what shape corona takes on the day of counting when a large gathering of the poll agents of different political parties of five assembly constituencies, counting state employees, media persons and security men will take place. This will be a daunting task for the administration to tackle. As the Corona graph is on the rise across the district, the health department has intensified awareness drive in urban and rural areas, advising people to strictly follow COVID protocol.
Election agents have been directed to get COVID tests done to be eligible for entry to counting halls. District Election Officer, Anbamuthan M P IAS, said arrangements have been made for Covid tests for all the five assembly constituencies of Karimganj (North), Karimganj (South), Ratabari, Badarpur and Patharkandi. 62 candidates are in the fray. The district administration is for foolproof arrangement to contain the spread of covid 19. Since the second wave started, 106 persons have been infected in the district as on date and only one person died.
