Spiritual leader Madharam Das passes away in Guwahati due to heart failure

GAURISAGAR: Madharam Das, noted spiritual leader, writer and founder of Sanatan Vaishnav Samaj Sewa Ashram located at Jakichuk Patuwachala village on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district, passed away on Sunday evening in a private hospital in Guwahati due to heart failure. He was 78.

He had been suffering from heart ailment since few months and was admitted in Jorhat Mission Hospital. But due to his deteriorating health condition he was referred to Guwahati where he breathed his last. Hearing about his demise, disciples gathered his Sewa Ashram. His last rites were performed in the campus of Sewa Ashram in the presence of disciples hailing from various parts of the State.

Madharam Das, a retired official of the Indian Railways, was a disciple of Paramartha Parishad. He formed a branch of it in his birthplace - Bhagamukh Dulakakharia village in Jorhat district in 1986. Later on the advice of his Guru, the founder of Paramartha Parisad, Sonaram Talukdar, he formed an independent spiritual institute Sanatan Vaishnav Samaj Sewa Ashram and took charge of its head. Later, he expanded its branches to Sadiya, Naharkatia, Duliajan, Morioni, Titabor, Tezpur Brahmajan, Nagaon and Morigaon. He was also a noted witter and wrote 66 religious books.

His demise has cast a pall of gloom. He is survived by three sons, four daughters and a host of relatives.
