Biswanath Chariali: At a time when the Assamese film industry is flourishing with superhit and award-winning films like Kanchanjangha, Ratnakar and Bulbul Can Sing the alleged stand-off between the stakeholders of the only cinema hall at Biswanath Chariali - Pabhoi Talkies’ (rechristened as Gold Cinema-Satarupa) - has deprived movie goers.

According to information, the erstwhile Pabhoi Talkies was taken on lease by M/s Satarupa from Pabhoi Cooperative Society Limited in 2014. Subsequently, they tied-up with M/s Agile Associates of Guwahati (the distributor of Gold Cinema in Assam) for screening of films. Though everything was going on smoothly in the beginning, differences erupted between M/s Satarupa and Gold Cinema due to payment related matters at a later stage. It led to the closure of the cinema hall. The partners of M/s Satarupa alleged at a press meet on Tuesday that the owners of Gold Cinema had been showing huge loss instead of providing them proper accounts since the opening of the cinema hall and it was a matter of utter surprise to them. They also alleged that M/s Satarupa was ready to negotiate with Gold Cinema over the matter but it showed no response to their request.
