SILCHAR: For many, winter is the season of mirth and jollity, fun and frolic and outing to be in the sunshine, wasting money uselessly and aimlessly. But there are individuals and NGOs for whom standing by the helpless and poor in the nerve-shattering winter with warm clothes to help them keep away from the biting cold is a social responsibility. The Roy family of Jirighat in Lakhipur sub division of Cachar facing Jiribam in Manipur comes to the help of poor and needy every winter by distributing warm clothes among them. This noble and humanitarian gesture was in focus through a simple and solemn function at the residence of Roy family on Tuesday, 40 km from here.

Seema Deb, GP president of Jirighat, and Jahar Deb, member anchalik panchayat member, who graced the occasion appreciated the efforts of Roy family, a leading businessman of the area. They praised the message and inspiration to others being given through the free distribution of warm clothes. Seema Deb called upon persons of riches to follow the example of Roys. This will definitely bring about change in the mindset of people, busy in making money without any consideration for the downtrodden.

Sahib roy of the family said nobody is born poor but may be economically weak and they consider it as part of their social responsibility to give honour to these have- nots and nothing moe. During the corona pandemic, Roy family has distributed grocery items among them. Nilaj Roy, GP group member, of Roy family expressed the hope to help more people in their next philanthropic works.

It was in fact the birth day of a junior member of Roy family, Anardeep Roy, which was celebrated with the noble objective. Putul Rani Das, Bibha Rani Roy, Indira Roy, Narayan Roy, Dulu Roy, Nibha Roy, Biparna Roy, Rani Das, Sourav Das, Sany Roy, Happy Roy, Juri Roy and other members of the joint family handed over the warm clothes to the poor people, mostly women.
